Cinemagraphs are
photographs in which a selection of the image moves slightly, repeatedly. They
are usually saved and shown as a GIF file format. They are made by recording a
short video and keeping one frame still while you select what part of the image
is going to move. For example in the gif above the hair moves while the model
and background remains still. This video is than looped forever so it plays continuously.
Cinema graphs were coined by two U.S. photographers Kevin Burgand Jamie Beck. The technique
is only very new to the industry and is a rising trend especially in the commercial
world. As technology grows and nearly everything is shown on devices such as
computers and phones, these cinema graphs are a great way to advertise
as they are very interesting and catching to the eye.
